Atteberry's Enlistment

Atteberry enlisted on October 16, 1940 in South Langhorne Bucks PA. He later would leave for seas in November of 1943. When he enlisted, he joined the infantry that would later fight on the beaches of Normandy. At the time of Death he was respected as a Private First Class and would later win multiple honorable awards.  He would fight among the 8th Infantry, 4th Division (4th Infantry Division, sitting at Utah Beach on the left).

Private First Class

PFC is one of the more common roles gained in the military. When one enters, they enter as a private and work their way up in status. A private has the the duties of carrying out orders issued by commanders. 

8th Infantry, 4th Division

Colonel William J. Worth created the 8th Infantry that would later be nicknamed the "Fighting Eagles" on July 5th, 18. The 4th Division was known as the Ivy Division, which also participated in battles like Battle of the Bulge and Hurtgen Forest. Together they were tasked with securing Utah Beach. 

General Equipment

  • Waterproof backpack (Which held things like extra clothing, food, and personal belongings.)
  • A helmet, typically made of stainless steel
  • Usually a pack that held things like a tent, tent pins, and a blanket. 
  • A first- aid kit
  • Usually A belt that held their ammunition.
  • Some sort of gun (a rifle)
